The Reason Metal Earrings Discolors

If you’ve ever bought cheap jewelry that makes your skin greenish in color I’m sure you’ve wondered what the cause is. Usually ~ your skin is reacting to base metal to everyone who wears jewelry that is cheaper.
It happens to some people more quickly than others~ though, due to the fact that everyone has different skin.

Truth be told expensive jewelry can have the same effect- because it’s not totally pure<, no matter how much it costs. Platinum is a safe choice as it almost never reacts with skin so there should be no concern if you own platinum jewelry. If you have gold jewelry and want to stop it from making you look green be sure its not made from cheap metal and then plated – it has only a very fine coating of gold over top of a base metal that can rub off. For 100% gold jewelry thats not rinsed or plated choosing a higher karat will help keep green spots from showing up on your skin. Copper jewelry will green your skin and theres really nothing to be done.

Stay away from sweating in your jewelry it can increase the green skin effect you can also get a special coating put on – to keep your skin from reacting. If you do this you can keep wearing your base metal jewelry without worry.
Just remember~ the green discoloration isn’t harmful. It’s simply a reaction and not allergies. Allergies (such as those to nickel) turn your skin red and also will make your skin inflamed and itchy. Which is nothing like a green skin reaction.
so make sure if you notice an allergy developing that you stop wearing your jewelry right away. If all you have is green skin you are safe to keep wearing the jewelry you may just have to clean your skin more so you won’t look bad.

Truth be told coating your jewelry is generally your best choice.
